Many Japanese people go to worship and pray at "Kanda Myojin (神田明神)", a shrine in Tokyo, as it is the first work day of the year on Monday 6 January 2014.
Kanda Myojin originally built around 730 AD as the abode of the gods who protect various places (108 places) in Tokyo. Usually Japanese went to pray at this shrine normally. They pray for the family to be happy and prosperous, successful, and recovery from illness, prevent accidents and disasters, but Kanda Myojin is one of the shrines that are very important in the new year because it is a shrine of commerce and industry. So the Japanese are like to pray them good luck in their work and blessings to business progress and prosperity.
